The Statute of the Society of Abstinence from the Burning Beverages
the 9th, Sunday, 16.30 h
The
Museum of Warmia and Mazury
in Olsztyn |
During the period of the Partitions of Poland,
the sobriety movement accomplished not only its statutory aims but also
patriotic ones. It was developing in Warmia since the half of the 19th
century, mostly because of Father Walenty Tolsdorf’s initiative. The Statute
of the Society, published in Braniewo in 1852, with hand-signed oaths of
abstinence, is a rare document illustrating numerous aspects of this
movement’s activity. |
